Please be aware that I think only one antanna works per TV so that could be a hidden expense if you want to get rid of cable. Now I want to use my government coupons to get another couple of DTVs to hook up the rest of the house and maybe even cut down the cable to one TV in the house and save some money. I told her that's free TV.
I was not interested in getting the cable company to charge me for each and every box to hook up each TV so I invested blindly in this DTV box. I live in Long Island NY and I was able to pick up almost 32 channals immediately. I am new to the whole digital TV thing this year but when I looked around my house I have found several TVs not hooked up to cable but still in very good condition.
The picture and sound is so clear my wife thought it was the dish we use to have. But so far I am happy this experiment has worked out so well. First you would need to get an over the air indoor/outdoor HD Digital antanna which actually costed me more than the DTV but together they worked.
The remote is small but it works as a universal with your TV and comes with other features like signal strengh so you can position that antanna.
The unit also had a display menu that would give me all of the HD (High Definition) and DS (Digital Standard) signals when scanned. It was sent by United States Postal Service. The unit worked right out of the box (compared to Sansonic FT-300A). As for sound, you might wish to turn up the volume on the unit's menu first before using your television remote or vice-versa. I purchased the Insignia NS-DXA1 Digital to Analog TV Tuner Converter Box for Regular TV Sets at Amazon.com.
This course of action led me to believe that the product had been tampered with or used.Nonetheless, now, I don't have to worry about June 12, 2009 digital deadline and at a pretty good cost-per-savings too. This was not the case when I received it. Doing this will allow you to use one remote for volume rather than using two for volume and sound. My only complaint--why I give it two stars, was concerning delivery of the product: The product was delivered in the same product box but also enclosed within a postal mail box. I clicked on the "new" link at the Amazon web site. If the channel had more than one digital setting then you could switch to the second channel by pushing the "Guide & > " characters right on the remote control. The Insignia product box seal had been broken. The only drawback that I have with this converter box was concerning specific channels, the picture (clear picture) would not fill my 27" screen completely. When I purchased the product, I thought I was receiving a new product right out of the box.
Total cost: approximately $35.00. (I thought products like this would be sent UPS). Let it come. Not only would the channel display, but the menu would also give you information about what you're watching. The Insignia converter box scanned all of the channels right out of the box at my specific location.
i bought the item and it was worth the money.the only thing is that u need and antena.still great item
I wish that I could tell you something about the product, but I can't review what I don't have. The unit was never delivered and neither organization has responded to my e-mail inquiries. Ordered the Insignia NS-DXA1 through Amazon. They placed the order with a sub-tier supplier.
picture looks great. This is a great product. It was very easy to program and the T.V.
